On b-colorings in regular graphs

چکیده
A b-coloring is a coloring of the vertices of a graph such that each color class contains a vertex that has a neighbor in all other color classes. El-Sahili and Kouider have conjectured that every d-regular graph with girth at least 5 has a b-coloring with d+1 colors. We show that the Petersen graph infirms this conjecture, and we propose a new formulation of this question and give a positive answer for small degree. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Extremal H-colorings of trees and 2-connected graphs
For graphs G and H, an H-coloring of G is an adjacency preserving map from the vertices of G to the vertices of H. H-colorings generalize such notions as independent sets and proper colorings in graphs. There has been much recent research on the extremal question of finding the graph(s) among a fixed family that maximize or minimize the number of H-colorings. In this paper, we prove several res...
متن کاملPerfect $2$-colorings of the Platonic graphs
In this paper, we enumerate the parameter matrices of all perfect $2$-colorings of the Platonic graphs consisting of the tetrahedral graph, the cubical graph, the octahedral graph, the dodecahedral graph, and the icosahedral graph.
متن کاملCounting Colorings of a Regular Graph
At most how many (proper) q-colorings does a regular graph admit? Galvin and Tetali conjectured that among all n-vertex, d-regular graphs with 2d|n, none admits more q-colorings than the disjoint union of n/2d copies of the complete bipartite graph Kd,d. In this note we give asymptotic evidence for this conjecture, showing that the number of proper q-colorings admitted by an n-vertex, d-regular...
متن کاملSome problems on idomatic partitions and b-colorings of direct products of complete graphs∗
In this note, we deal with the characterization of the idomatic partitions and b-colorings of direct products of complete graphs. We recall some known results on idomatic partitions of direct products of complete graphs and we present new results concerning the b-colorings of the direct product of two complete graphs. Finally, some open problems are given.
متن کاملOn Approximately Counting Colorings of Small Degree Graphs
We consider approximate counting of colorings of an n-vertex graph using rapidly mixing Markov chains. It has been shown by Jerrum and by Salas and Sokal that a simple random walk on graph colorings would mix rapidly, provided the number of colors k exceeded the maximum degree ∆ of the graph by a factor of at least 2. We prove that this is not a necessary condition for rapid mixing by consideri...
متن کاملMaximizing H-Colorings of Connected Graphs with Fixed Minimum Degree
For graphs G and H, an H-coloring of G is a map from the vertices of G to the vertices of H that preserves edge adjacency. We consider the following extremal enumerative question: for a given H, which connected n-vertex graph with minimum degree δ maximizes the number of H-colorings? We show that for non-regular H and sufficiently large n, the complete bipartite graph Kδ,n−δ is the unique maxim...
